Sopapillas—Scones

1 pkg. Yeast (2 1/2 tsp.)
1/4 cup warm water
1 T. Sugar

Combine the above ingredients then add:
4 cups flour
1 tsp. Salt
2 T. sugar
1 tsp. Baking powder
1 T. oil
1 1/2 cups milk (heat the milk in the microwave until warm—not hot)

Knead 15-20 times. Roll onto a floured surface so dough is 1/4 inch thick. Cut into 3 inch squares. Cook in hot oil. Dip into sugar, or powdered sugar or serve plain with jams or syrup.
