Brown Bag Apple Pie

This is an absolute family favorite. I have such great memories of smelling apple pie cooking and knowing my mom had whipped this up. I loved seeing the the greasy brown bag come out of the oven.

If I had to pick a dessert, it probably wouldn't be apple pie. This apple pie is different. The crust is flaky, and the streusel topping really makes it. Plus, you don't have to roll out the crust. Next time you're at the grocery store, ask for a brown bag and whip this up.

Brown Bag Apple Pie
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. oil
2 TBS. cold milk

Preheat oven to 325. Combine flour, sugar, salt, oil, and milk; mix well. Press into bottom and sides of 9" pie dish. Do not roll out.

Filling
4 c. apples, peeled & sliced
1/2 c. sugar
2 TBS. flour
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon

Combine sugar, flour, nutmeg and cinnamon. Toss lightly with sliced apples and pour into unbaked pie shell.

Topping
1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter

Combine all together and mix with fingers until crumbly. Sprinkle over top of apples. Place in a brown paper grocery bag and fold edge under. Cut 4 slits in top of bag and bake for 1 1/2 hours.
